Random Clips on Friday: Lindy Hop Stop-Motion Animation

02.12.2011 by Chris

I posted this yesterday on my Facebook Page – and many other Facebook users as well – and it's so incredibly awesome that I have to continue the unoffical Friday series and post this short clip (only 28 seconds) again.

Stop-Motion Animation inspired by Max Pitruzzella & Annie Trudeau

Unfortunately, there is no information about the creator (Adam from Canada?).

What is Stop-Motion?

Stop motion (also known as stop action) is an animation technique to make a physically manipulated object appear to move on its own. The object is moved in small increments between individually photographed frames, creating the illusion of movement when the series of frames is played as a continuous sequence.

Charleston Meets Lindy Hop

This is the clip from the Jump Session Show in Seattle, WA in 2007 with the original choreography by Max & Annie.

Random Clips on Friday: Lindy Hop Flash Mob at Denver Airport

25.11.2011 by Chris

Wow, what a cool Flash Mob! Obviously, they put a lot of effort into the choreography. I like the energy of the dancers, it seems they had a lot of fun.

Also the filming and editing is very nicely done!

Enjoy!

Official Denver Airport Holiday Flash Mob

Description, taken from YouTube:

Holiday travelers at Denver International Airport (DIA) were surprised with an entertaining treat when a flash mob broke out in Jeppesen Terminal on November 22nd, 2011. Approximately 100 dancers from Community-Minded Dance (cmDance) performed a Lindy Hop to a medley of Swing classics in the airport's Great Hall in Denver, Colorado.

Coordinated by cmDance
Choreography by Ceth Stifel, Heather Ballew, Joseph DeMers, & Lark Mervine

Organized by DIA's Art and Culture Program
Today's dance performance was presented by the airport's Art and Culture Program. Documentary “The Unforgettable Hampton Family” on YouTube

15.11.2011 by Chris

Some of you who attended Herrang Dance Camp last summer, had the opportunity to watch the documentary “The Unforgettable Hampton Family“, together with Dawn Hampton in person.

The interest was appropriately high and the library, where it was shown, fully packed.

At the end of September, buddhaboogie, better known as big band leader George Gee, published the documentary on his YouTube channel.

The documentary celebrates the Hamptons, a talented African-American family who overcame poverty and prejudice to build successful musical careers.

The Unforgettable Hampton Family is a production of BetterThanFiction Productions for WNET. Produced, written and directed by Julie Cohen. Editor is Scott Feinstein. Field producer is Alex Lowther. Director of Photography is Rich White. Executives in Charge are Neal Shapiro and Stephen Segaller. Narrated by Lowell Deo.

Random Clips on Friday: Collegiate Shag

04.11.2011 by Chris

I have the feeling that there is an increasing interest in Collegiate Shag.

Do you know how Collegiate Shag looks like? Here are two clips.

Arthur Murray's Collegiate Shag (1937)

A compilation with a demonstration of basics of Double Collegiate Shag, a showcase of several dancers and an evening group routine performance.

Collegiate Shag by the San Francisco Jitterbugs

A mixture of contempary Collegiate Shag dance scenes and some from the clip above.

The History of Collegiate Shag

Check out this website if you wanna learn more about the history of Collegiate Shag. The front article on the website is by Peter Loggins. He's also one of the dancers in the second clip!

So, after watching these clips, would you like to learn Collegiate Shag?

Bal-Swing Out-and-In: New Blog Post and Clip by Nick Williams

22.09.2011 by Chris

Yesterday, Nick Williams published an interesting article about the Out and In in Bal-Swing and how he and his dance geek friends managed to find this missing motion to make their own Bal-Swing look like the oldtimers danced it.

Here is the link to the article called “Out and In-terest”

Private Lesson Footage with Maxie Dorf “Out and In”

Included in the article and also just released on YouTube is this clip

This is awesome footage and I'm really happy, Nick is releasing these clips. I especially like Maxie Dorf's style of sliding. I immediately want to work more on this technique!

What do you think about Nick's blog post and clip? Please leave a comment!
